What book would you never want made into a movie?
This could be for a variety of reasons. Maybe it's your favorite book and you think it would be ruined; maybe it's a boring book and it would be a waste of two hours.
So, what's your book and why?
Answer
I really don't think people should compare books and movies as much as they are. For example, people are saying Harry Potter should never have been made into a movie, but that they're good as movies and the only problem they have with it is that they don't follow the books perfectly. That seems unreasonable to me. Movies and books are two different medias of art, and it's impossible to have them both be the same. For one thing, books are interpreted differently by different people. When you make a book into a movie, the movie will be one person's view on how the effects should be and how the acting should be, because it's the way they've seen it in their own mind. Obviously, it won't be perfect for everyone. Also, there books which require the audience to understand a TON of information for it to make sense (like The Golden Compass) to the point where it's just not an entertaining movie. And there are books which take place in the 17th or 18th century, and when you make that into a movie you have to take into account the audience- it needs to appeal to a wide audience, so you have to make the dialogue a little more modern and understandable. Like in Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley. And then, there are the time constraints. Almost every movie needs to be changed around in order to fit in the time. Not everyone likes 3-hour long movies.
All that said, the book I never want made into a movie is Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. It's a book filled with so many horrible ideas that teenage girls could take seriously, one of them being "You have to be beautiful to be perfect and happy." (Another being "You have to change yourself to be happy with yourself and to fit in.")When Bella is changed into a vampire, she's not awkward or unconfident anymore. She's strong and sure and beautiful, but it's only because Edward turned her into a vampire, and now she has her happily ever after because, not only is she all that, she has Edward. She has a man present in her life. When it's made into a movie, these messages will be broadcasted to a wider audience, to people who otherwise will never have been exposed to them because they wouldn't have read the books. Well, there goes that.
Edit: Of course, it would have been great if Twilight hadn't been made into a movie for exactly the same reasons, but it's a little too late for that, now XD
@ck1- Yeah, if they're going to make a book into a movie, but give it a different plot, that's a little ridiculous.
I have seen movies which use the same premise as the book, but change the ending and a little of the plot. And I really didn't mind it- it was Howl's Moving Castle (you should read it!)
-Yeah, I see what you mean.

Who would you want to play Melinda Sordino in a remake of Speak?
TheatreLov
Speak (2004) in my opinion was horrible. but the book is awesome! so i'm writing a remake (i know, i know, it will probably never get made into a movie, but it'll be fun to write). if it was ever made into a movie, who would you want to play Melinda? I think Kristen Stewart was great. do you know of any younger actresses who look like Kristen Stewart? thanks you guys.
I was thinking maybe Elle Fanning.
