I am in 7th grade and need a good world war II nonfiction book. Don't make it boring, I want a little excitement. Not Diary of Anne Frank!

Answer
You could read "Night" by Eli Weisel. It's about his experiences in the concentration camps during the Holocaust. Kind of the same thing as Diary of Anne Frank, but it's the only other one I could think of.

If World War II was an ideological war, what type of war was World War I?

Last Night

In reference to the characteristics of World War II, the book I am reading for class states, "To begin with, it was an ideological war, unlike World War I." For clarification of this statement, I am wondering how World War I would be classified.

Answer
The last war for empire.

The USA showed that if you take on a nation with an empire and win, you get the empire. It took on Spain which had a vast empire. It was no contest. After the Spanish American War, the USA had Cuba, the Philippines and Puerto Rico. The USA showed how to do it.

In World War one you had a bunch of nations that had no or limited empires. Germany, Austria, Italy. (Have nots) On the other side you had nations with empires or a lot of land. Russia, USA, England, France, Belgium. (Have nations). The idea was that by winning the war, Germany, Austria and Italy would take the empires of the losing nations. But since they lost, the "have" nations got to hang onto their empires and land. What worked for the USA against Spain did not work for the "have not" nations of WW One....

Have not VS Have......

Or another way to look at it, Germany, Italy and Austria did not do anything different than the USA did, attempt to steal an empire from another nation. The difference is, the USA succeeded.

Kind of hurts to say that the "bad guys" of World War One got their idea from the USA. The USA was a bad example.
