I have been raised as a Christian my whole life and recently I read the book C.S. Lewis debates Sigmund Freud. It has me thinking what if life really is all an accident. Some times it even frightens that there might be no true meaning to life. I have been reading about the big bang theory and have been wondering, where did the bang originate?

Answer
You will never find the meaning of life in the science of religion. The paradox is that there is no meaning. Life is temporal. Not just for you but for ALL things.

Your question would have some validity if the Universe existed in a Steady State model. It does not.

The Big Bang model lacks completion. But it is based upon mathematical and observational truths. Religious beliefs play no part in this.

You will die just as all humans and all single and multi-cellular organisms before you. Our Sun, like all stars, will die just as the death of the earliest stars of creation died to make your life of carbon possible. As our Sun moves toward its Red Giant stage, the Earth will become so hot in 1.5 billion years that ALL water will vaporize. NO life on Earth will survive beyond this point. The Universe itself, if calculations regarding the expansion rate are correct, will be so spread apart in trillions of years that galaxies will not have the heat or matter to form new stars. The Universe will die.

Religious beliefs will have no effect upon these events nor the events of creation.

Christianity only applies in ones morals. One may have the ability to choose to believe in things which can never be proved or disproved. One has the freedom of choice to believe in a particular sect of monotheism or in polytheism. The meaning of life is as individual as a snowflake. One man's philosophy applies only to that one man. In the end, each individual must create his own philosophy of life. No two creatures lives are exactly the same. The only 'true' meaning to life is the meaning which you choose to give to yourself as an individual.

If you are searching for a god, it will not be found within the Big Bang model. A study of the creation of our Solar System will reveal chaos. Not a magical source of peaceful mystery. Even today, we live with the threat of asteroids. This is not god.

God can only be found within you. The concept of a god is not to be confused with a white bearded magician seperated from you. If you believe in morals or an eternal spirit or soul or force which continues to exist after your body dies, then this is the source to locate your 'true' meaning of existance.
