Why should college students read Hamlet in a World Literature class?

This is an assignment for a World Literature class, in which i have to act as the teacher and choose books for students to read.

There are so many wonderful lines in this play that have made it into our everyday speech...eg. "to thine ownself be true". I find it to be a philosophical play and it examines many aspects of being human.

Any Ideas of good Literature books? Im a beginner and Im not good in the old shakesphere english?
