I am a college student that had to read Frederick Douglass' book, A Narrative in the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave. For our final we have to write a paper on why the book is so great. I need help coming up with reasons. Why is it such a great book, and why is it on the Literature Canon book list?

FD is what may be termed an "overcomer," someone with the sense of victory. Such is not remarkable in the White community (Emerson, Twain, Dickinson, et al.); in the Black community, such clarity has been rare, so his work stands alongside the insights of Emerson, Twain, and Dickinson, in terms of self-liberation, self-realization.
FD is no different in terms of quality than Emerson, Twain, and Dickinson, but while the latter are remarkable for their insight, FD is remarkable for the same qualities, as the 19th century Black community in America produced no other writer and lecturer of similar quality.

What are some great Agricultural Books for beginners?

I have always been interested in farming and the land. Can anyone recommend a great book that teaches the basics of agriculture? I thought for sure thay would have Agriculture for dummies but it's on beekeeping.

You can look for text books for college courses. I have read several books about small scale farming or general gardening. I think a great book about our food supply is "Animal, vegetable, miracle." It is a non fiction book about a family who moved to live a sustainable life and all the things that happened along the way. The authors husband is some sort of agricultural Professor and has several side bars about the state of the conventional farmed food supply. They also listed several related books with more information about specifics.
You can also look for books on Organic farming, I have a couple that have a lot of info. There is also books about biointenstive farming aka French intensive or square foot gardening.
