What modern kind of media (books, movies, television shows) have you been exposed to Greek Mythology? Has that exposure been accurate or is it just "kind of like the original"?
-i have the media references already i just need the second question answered. can someone answer it ,preferably this week?

Answer
Not at all like the original, given most views of greek mythology are based in Bullfinch's Mythology and as such are basically a crib book version for 19th century students trying to read Homer. Adapted in the modern era into stock bands of superhero substitutes, reduced to a baseball card like short list of stats.

The absurd organization of Greek Gods into a Pantheon with separate spheres of responsibility is based on later accounts and writers and has little or no real connection to the practice of the actual religions, which had a great deal of variation and cross cultural influences.

What in your opinion are the best and worst movie adaptions of books?

I am constructing a demo speech for a class, and my topic of choice is "How to Adapt a Great Book into a Halfway Decent Movie" (going for the tounge-in-cheek approach.) As part of my research I am conducting a survey asking as many people as I can what their favorite book-as-movie is, and why they think the adaption worked well. I am also asking what their least favorite book-as-movie is, and why they think the adaption failed. Any and all help is appreciated!

Answer
BEST:
I think the best film adaptation of a book would definitely be Bridge to Terabithia. The book was great, the film was great. It included pretty much everything in the book and a film that does that is bound to be a really good adaptation of a book because the majority of what book fans get pissed about is when the producers leave events out of the movie. Bridge to Terabithia was excellent. I loved it.

I'm also told that the Lord of the Rings movies were really good adaptations of the books - but I can't really say as I haven't read the books. Yes, I'm ashamed of myself. My mother threw the Fellowship of the Ring out because it was falling apart before I got to read it. And I tried to get it out of the school library the other day but it wasn't there. They had The Two Towers & Return of the King though, but I always have to start at the start, I've read The Hobbit though. It'll be great when it's a movie!

WORST
Eragon was a great book which I loved. I'm really liking the rest of the series as well. However, the movie was pathetic. Honestly it was crap. Everything was so lame and it just made me mad. It all seemed so fake, the acting was terrible, they mixed up anything, the Urgles looked nothing like they were supposed to - they're supposed to look like monsters and in the film they looked like big, bald wrestlers. It was terrible! They didn't say anything about elves - if you didn't read the book you wouldn't have known one of the main characters - Arya - was an elf because it has nothing in the film that indicated that she was. We didn't get told that Brom could talk to Saphira. I'm sure there's heaps more as I watched this film like 2 years ago, and haven't watched it since for good reason. Gah.

The Harry Potter movies sort of irk me as well. Just because their my favourite books, not necessarily because they were terrible movies. Although, there were heaps of parts in the movies that were bad.
