It's an older book, maybe late 80s, ealry 90s. It's winter and a bunch of animals find a glove (I think it was a glove) to keep warm in. The all cram into the glove and a little cricket comes along and when he climbs in the glove it explodes. It was my favorite book when I was little and now I can't remember the name of it. I want to get it for my little boy.

I have the book in front of me. It is called The Mitten, by Rita Walsh, illustrated by Paige Billin-Frye.

I used to love reading this to my daughter. Now I keep for Christmas, displaying it w/my other holiday books.

if the book won in the 80s and 90s, it was printed with a golden seal on the bottom right. I am looking for a specific book that I remember winning this award, and cannot figure out the title. I will die a happy man if I can find this book.

Do you mean the Newbery Medal winners?

If so, you can go to their site http://ala8.ala.org/ala/alsc/awardsscholarships/literaryawds/newberymedal/newberymedal.htm and check through all the medal winners from 1922 on.

By the way, there are also Caldecott Medal winners. For some reason my computer won't let me get to the site which lists these book winners from 1938 on, but Wikipedia has a list. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldecott_medal

***BTW: Winners of both those awards get a "medal" on the front cover of the book.
