Q. I'm 13 years old, almost 14 and I love writing. I'm currently writing a book and I really want to publish it. My parents said that it was fine but I'm trying to find a place where I would be able to without paying over 1000 dollars for it.
Where can I find an agency?
I am a really good writer. I got put into the Humanities program at my school because of my writing skills. I write articles for my school newspaper and magazine and I write short stories and books all the time just for fun. Could a librarian or english major or english teacher edit for me? Or do I NEED to get it edited profesionaly?
I should have phrased this question differently. "Is there an agent that will take on a 13 year old?"

Answer
Unless you are a great writer, someone your age stands little chance of being published by a big house, such as Random House or Penguin. That is not to say it's not possible, but your work needs to be well above that of an adult.

I think the first person mentioned a writing contest, and that is the best place to start. When trying to break into the world of traditional publishing, the more professional references you have to your name the better off you will be. Winning a writing contest will help set your work apart from others, and the more contests you win, the more credible you become as an author.

Then there is the fluke. you could submit a query letter to an agent and they take you on as a client. Your book could sell to the first publisher it was pitched to, and in a year and a half or longer, your book shows up at Barnes and Noble. Is this a likely scenario? Not at all, but it is possible.

The trick to publishing a work is to research the market you are trying to break into, such as sci-fi, mystery, fantasy, etc. If you know your target audience and you find an agent or contest that caters to that audience, you have more of a chance of being successful.

As another person mentioned, you need to edit, edit, and edit some more. If you have finished a book (at least 150-250 pages), have a professional proofread your work. Friends and family, unless they are professional editors, will generally not be able to help you professionally edit your work. Some editing services charge less than $1000 bucks, which would be a wiser investment than paying for self-publishing printing costs.

Look into local writing contests and publications, like magazines and newspapers that accept freelance submissions of prose and or fictional works. After you have a few contests under your belt and your work holds up, draft a query letter and get a copy of the latest edition of "Writer's Market" and find an agent that deals with the genre of your story.

Best of fortune.

What is the minimum requirement to apply for PR in Singapore?

Fredana

I am currently working in Singapore under Q1 Employment Pass and I would like to apply PR in Singapore. However, I have only been working for 7 months, should I wait for at least 1 year? Or I can apply for it now? Is there a quota for different countries for PR approval given by the Singapore government?

Thank you very much.
