My daughter is in 4th grade Abeka and I swear I've never even seen a high schooler with this much home work!!! She has something in every subject every night except Wednesday!
Answer
I am not familiar with Abeka, but isn't it a book based curriculum? Aren't you in charge of how much work is assigned? That is the beauty of home schooling, tailoring it to fit the needs of your individual child.
In my 18 1/2 years of home schooling my children they have never had "home work," per say. If they do have school work to do in the afternoon and evening hours it is by choice, because they didn't do their work earlier!
If a program or materials are not working, don't continue using them. Sometimes in home school you have to try a lot of things before you hit a winner!
I suggest scraping Abeka and doing something less structured, or at least slow down the pace. Who says you have to keep up with what they put as "daily lessons?"

What is an appropriate grade to read "Animal Farm"?
Q. I read this book in 4th grade but now that I am a junior we are beginning to read it in class. My dad used to make me read every night for thirty minutes and in addition I also had to read Animal farm because he felt it would be of great value for me to read but my reading level contrasts greatly from 4th grade up until now. I understood the message of how communism is never true communism and eventually dictators arise but what grade would you recommend someone read this because I was suprised when we began reading this.
Answer
I remember reading this at around 7th grade. I doubt I would have understood it's true meaning if I were to have read it earlier.
