I am working with a 5 yr. old girl with down syndrome. I work in the mental health field, but most of my clients are ADHD, ODD or in the autism spectrum. I am unfamilar with downs and the behaviors she presents. It would be great to get some videos for training purposes, I would read books, but they do not count toward the training hours I need to keep my certifications.

How do I interact/play with a 2 yr old, 5 yr old and an 8 yr old?

How do you think I could get better at interacting with a 2 yr old, 5 yr old and 8 yr old./ playing with them? any tips, books, advice you've got will be appreciated. (I am trying to get to know someone with kids that are these ages, please help me think of ways to play with them)

Answer
The best way to interact with them is to get to know them!
Watch them carefully, find out what they like or might be interested in. Take them outside to the park and things like that. Plan activities like craft projects! I was a nanny for 3 different families. One of 3 girls and a boy, another of a boy and a girl and another of 2 boys. The ages ranged from 2 to 10~
The boys liked craft projects that revolved around their interests! They loved superheros so we made super hero masks and made up their own characters.(set with all their powers and weeknesses >o<;)
The girls loved to go to the park...actually all the kids did!
Younger kids around 2....well you could pretty much do anything! They love being chased and tickled! lol
5 year olds....They want to play outside, like being chased, making stuff with paper...playing board games...and making messes! Maybe try buying paints~
And for 8 year olds... by this age it really depends what they like!
I hope that helps! Watch them and find out what they like, basically to play with them just ask what they want to do!
