Mrs. Bentl
I have an 8 year old who I think is ready for a sex talk. I would like to know if there are any books/DVDs/other resources you all have used that you recommend. Thanks!

I liked the book "It's so Amazing, a book about eggs, sperm, birth babies and families" by Robie Harris.
They gave plenty of information and was a great start to several conversations I had with my daughter.
Note - they do cover topics such as alternate families, HIV, abuse. Some believe that these topics don't belong in the conversation with kids until older.
It was my opinion that this more sensitive topics were handled gently and in a manner that didn't scare my kid or bring up subjects that I thought were inappropriate. But there are certainly others who would disagree with me.

What could I get a 5 year old and a 8 year old girls?

Raven
Ok so you know they are my adopted Nieces. They love to spend time with me and everything. But the 5 year old is in to princesses and animals but she has a lot of those.
Now the 8 year old is in to books about the 6 grade reading. Now I can't read that well so I can't tell what is 6 grade or not.
I know I have ideas but still very confused. Never bought for these girls before.
Answer
Get something you can work on with them together. Maybe you could do a scrapbook or something. It could be a great family project! Get started with supplies from http://www.storephotos.com/ and go from there. It can be something that they will remember doing for years to come. I think this is a great present.
I hope this helps!
