I'm entering my Freshmen year of High School next year, and I'm taking Honors English. I have to do a summer reading essay, and I really want to impress my teacher. I've read many classic books, but they have all been made into movies. I need some suggestions, help?

Answer
A Confederacy of Dunces

this has been rumored to be in the works for a long time but was never made. the book is hilarious. originally John Belushi was supposed to be the lead, playing Ignatius J. Reilly. Chris Farley was then supposed to act in it. Many called it a curse.

The last rumor has Will Farrell playing Ignatius, but Hurricane Katrina wiped out plans to film it and you can't really film a story that is completely in New Orleans without the city of New Orleans in it.

What Book You Think Should be Made Into a Movie?

I have no idea where one can suggest books to be made into movies but I have read several I would like to see on film. One is The Prophetess by Barbara Wood. It is about a female archaeologist who unearths some ancient scrolls and is pursued by unscrupulous people who want to get them from her. She flees them as they have tracked her on her phone and computer but she cleverly outwits them and tries to translate the scrolls.

I was going to say BRAVE NEW WORLD by Aldous Huxley, but now I find that was made in 1998 but not for USA release. (Stars Leonard Nimoy & Peter Gallager).

I'm tied between two allegory books.
THE GREAT DIVORCE by C.S. Lewis. Apparently movie rights have been secured & they are looking for backing to make the movie this year. The plot summary can be found at...

The other allegory is HIND'S FEET ON HIGH PLACES.

I think someone like Steven Spielberg could do these justice b/c of his work with mixing in CGI in a believable manner. They would not be as good if attempted to be done in total CGI. Which would be too tempting b/c of all the fantasy scenery.

Although billed a Christian works, C.S. Lewis (as shown in plot summary) never intended it to be JUST that. They would best focus on divorcing ones self from the matters in life that hold you back from being the most you can be. And learning to journey away from a fear controlled life into being the most you can be. (Respectively.)

I think the world needs to hear these messages at this time.
