I was wondering if there are some great books out there that might teach you how to be a great human. I know it sounds cheesy. But, with all the consumerism, media, tv, and stuff its hard to tell what to do. You don't know what is reality or propaganda. I just wish I could live like Ghandi but not as hippy. Thanks for your help.

Read religious books. Such as the bible, talmud, koran, buddhist writings, biographies by famous great people, etc.

Religious books do, but I'm looking for fictional books with a strong message or powerful feel to them that resonates and just makes you want to go out and change the world for the good.

The Kite runner by Khaled Hossieni sure left an impact on me. It's great and relates to Afganistan mostly, and is the story of Amir and his friend/servant Hassan. Its tragic, sad, suspenseful, horrifying and what not! Give it a read and you'll surely learn a lot!
