best books 7 year old children image

I have an old children's book that I recently re-found in a nightstand that had been in the garage for 7 years. The book itself is still in good shape, but the smell of the mouse urine is almost unbearable. I am looking for a way to get rid of that smell safely!
Answer
I found a box of old books that were musty. The guy at the book resale shop told me to place them in a sealed tub or box with an open box (or bowl)of baking soda. Make sure the box is large enough so that you can stand the book up and open it to spread it out. I placed mine in an upside down /\ shape and the edges of the book cover rested against the sides of the tub [/\]. Leave them in there for a while. The soda absorbs a lot of the odor.
Good luck.

How can I get my 7 and 3 year olds to pay attention in church?
Q. I take things for them to do, like coloring books, and small non noise making toys. But I really want them to sit and pay attention. My 7 year old will be making her first commnunion next year and I want her to understand why. I have suggested to my parents that we should stop sitting with them, but then they all get upset. To my kids, Mom-Mom and Pappy are the best.
Please, I just want some suggestions, no rude answers please.
Thanks so much!!!!

We don't have children's church, since there are not many kids that do go to our church.
Yes, my daughter goes to CCD classes, but they only run those the length of the school year.

Answer
Even if your children sat perfectly still in church for an hour (which is a completely unrealistic goal to set for a 3 year old) they lack the vocabulary and the maturity to truly understand the spiritual significance of what is being said.
So, I think you're really conflicted because you have two separate issues and you're trying to tie them together. For now, put the "understanding why" thing on the back burner. People understand why when they're ready to, no matter how much their mom wants them to understand earlier!! :)
Focus, instead, on making "church" a family event in which your parents help you teach your children appropriate behavior during church services... which means, you focus only on keeping them quietly occupied... and entertained... standing when it's appropriate to stand.. .teaching them their prayers, etc... Your parents can help with this... and having them there creates a "family" environment for the kids that is really healthy. If you take your parents out of the equation, your children may grow to resent anything associated with church.
Bottom line? Meet them where they are... not where you want them to be.... and keep the issues separate. They're not bad kids.. they're young.
