Where can I get a free download of novels\stories of contemporary writers?

Most websites have books only from the middle ages. I'd like authors like Wole Soyinka, Nadine Gordimer. Project Gutenberg doesnt even have George Orwell. Copyrights are to blame, of course. But does anyone know where I can get more contemporary authors?
Oh please don't bother to give me a lecture on copyrights.
