best books 9 year old boy image

My fiance has a 9 year old boy. He lives with his dad generally 6 hours from us. The child does have adhd and does take meds for it. OK, he came to spend the summer with us and just as we expected has to sleep by his mom. Every nite. Insistant and totally defiant to his own bedroom. If I move him to his own bed he will wake up shortly after and go get in moms bed. We gave up that idea. Often he acts more like 5 than 9. What is the cause and resolution of this?
Answer
Medication needs to be supported by willpower.
If a child (or adult for that matter) doesn't have the discipline or willpower to control their attention no medication will force him to make the right choices.
In my experience, you need to dedicate the time to train a child.
Put him in his bed and then go read a book or something in fiance's bed. When he comes in, correct him and put him back in his bed. Keep doing this for as long as it takes.
It takes time and patience, but you need to replace the bad habit with a new one. If you expect him to change a long habit based on verbal correction only, you will be disappointed.

Series of books about a boy at boarding school?
Tina K
I read a series of books when I was young (probably 20 or more years ago) about a really smart boy who was sent to boarding school and would get into all kinds of trouble. They were funny, though, and I think my 9-year-old son would like them. Does anyone remember what they were/are called?
Thanks!
Answer
Do you mean The Great Brain series, by John D. Fitzgerald? This has at least one book where one of the main characters, a bright but very mischevious boy goes to a boarding school.
